Clifton Lake-Awesome Again!
Longtime guest Ron Nandor shared with us his 2023 trip to Clifton, a spot he loves. And why not ? Featuring the best of the Canadian Grand Slam and possibly the best walleye fishing in Northern Canada. It is no wonder guests like Ron and others visit Clifton year after year. Another jewel in the Gangler’s lineup of outposts.
“Hey Ken, I hope things are going well down your way. Just wanted to drop a quick note of thanks for yet another awesome trip to Ganglers. Last year’s trip to Clifton did not disappoint. We’ve been there probably a dozen times now, and we think we know the lake pretty well. But every year it seems, we find out something new. We get locked in on the “good spots” and that’s worked out great……but this year we made a concerted effort to get into spots we rarely fish. We found a spot that we quickly named “New Bay”, not a big spot, but big enough. The first time I pulled in there we were landing small pike in some shallow water…….always fun. But in between the small ones, a 42” beast came out from the thick weeds and simply destroyed my plastic. Seeing all this happen in clear shallow water is simply the best that Clifton fishing has to offer. Every time we went in there, the same thing happened with trophies landed all week. Needless to say, that spot is now a must during a Clifton visit.
There’s always wild cards during the week as well…..One day was windy and rainy and cool, which somewhat limited where we could go that day……..but with the cool weather, we also found some really nice lake trout in shallow water, very unusual for July, but an added bonus. There’s nothing like fresh trout on the grill to go along with a walleye appetizer!!
We celebrated this week as it was the 50th anniversary of the Nandor “Fisherman of the Year” trophy. Our family has been pike fishing in Canada for 50+ years and we are happy to be able to continue this tradition at Ganglers every summer. My cousin Mike Zamiska joined us on this Clifton trip and he was the original winner of that trophy!! Many family members and generations have been added to the list over the years and we plan on continuing this in the coming years. A 4th generation (12 year old!) won the trophy last year with a 44” monster. Spending a week with family at an outpost camp is one of the greatest memories we can give our family. Whether it’s the fishing, the hikes, the shore lunches, or even the birthday cake in the cabin (this year for Jeff AND the camp manager!), a good time is had by all.
I hope you and yours had a great winter and we are already planning our next trip!!

Clifton still has two great openings, July 6-13 and 13-20, for those still looking for a great trip for the summer of 2024.
