This place is a fly fishing mecca. Huge fish, all willing to take flies. Mostly sight fishing. Best trip I ever went on and I’ve been doing this 30 years.
Remote, Vast, Untouched Fly fishing the North Seal
The North Seal River watershed is truly an unspoken jewel in the fly fishing world.
The first thought for many on fishing Northern Canada is fly fishing for Northern Pike. Catching Northern Pike on the fly is an amazing experience. They have no fear, they are relentless, they are hungry, and at the North Seal they get very BIG! But what sets the North Seal apart from so many other Canadian fisheries is its incredible quality and diversity. It is Canada’s finest watershed for pursuing the Canadian Grand Slam- big pike, lake trout, walleye, and Arctic grayling. These waters are among the most remote in North America – fly-in only, remote and pristine- and quality and quantity abound! Guests can truly target all four species on the fly all season long!
Once you experience this incredible fishery, you will be spoiled forever!
The Last Remaining
Canadian Frontier
The North Seal river system is unlike any other. Much more than just one great river, it is a unique spider web of twelve river systems and over a hundred lakes, joined together, as this special Canadian Heritage River continues its progression eastward, eventually flowing into Hudson Bay. It is accessible by fly-in only and Ganglers has the exclusive allocation. It is an incredible treat for all anglers and for fly-fishermen, a paradise they never knew existed.
Northern Pike
Northern Pike follow seasonal changes in the species’ movement patterns, which vary during the course of the year but are tied to warming water temperatures. The waters of the North Seal provide great Canadian Pike fishing throughout the season no matter the season or your choice of fly presentation. There are generally always pike in the shallows for visual fishing but early June thru mid July is considered better for shallow sight fishing. Mid July thru late August offers a mix of sight-fishing bays and fishing weed beds in 5′-8′. A big pike hitting a popper or a mouse fished over a weed bed is quite the thrill !
Lake Trout
Lake trout are extremely dependent on water temps, preferring waters 48-52 degrees. lake trout can be caught extremely shallow, some in 2′ of water, in June. Gradually, they descend into the water column, eventually becoming densely packed in deepwater holes 40′-80′ where large numbers can be caught with a sinking fly line and big profiled streamer. The Fall is a special time as the trout flood back into the shallow reefs in large numbers to spawn. Their fall colors and aggressive takes make for an unforgettable experience.
Walleye
At the North Seal, a great fish to target. Big schools of fish averaging 18″-25″ crush flies in 6′-12′ of water. A good 7′ weight rod with a sink tip and a Clouser minnow and get ready for action. The NSR features many big walleye 28-34″, hook one and you’ll be in for a thrill.
Arctic Grayling
The epitome of the Canadian North, the North Seal is one of the finest fisheries for Arctic Grayling on the planet. The magnificent fish thrive at the North Seal and it tributaries , gorging on the incredible bug hatches. Fish average 12-16″ and many 18″ up to 24″. Every year we are cutting new trail. opening up previously unfished water to eager flyfishermen.
