Winter Caretaker’s Report Volume VI

Ryan and Ben as they change out
Hey everyone. I have returned home after 61 glorious days at the lodge. I did it, 61 days without a human encounter. It was an experience I had always wanted. Pure isolation, nothing other than me and my thoughts. I’d love to get to experience it again it was that great.
The last couple weeks of my stay were fairly low key. I had grand plans to do a bunch of fishing, but the cold snap just wouldn’t let go. I did get plenty of walks in though, and that led to an encounter with a black wolf. He spotted me as I spotted him, and disappeared before I could get my camera up.

Lady Aurora made an appearance with some of the most vivid shows I’ve seen in the winter. Shutters rolled on some great stills, and it was strong enough one evening that I was able to shoot real time video with my cell phone! I never tire of seeing the northern lights.
After four days at home with my family I’m about to kick into guiding mode here until July. For those who are coming to the lodge this summer, I’ll be around guiding at outposts and making a general nuisance of myself to Ken at the lodge. Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces, and new ones as well. Take care everyone.
