MIKE BORGER RETURNS

One of our favorite professional anglers is Mike Borger, head of the Canadian Fishing Guide. Mike’s humble nature belies an incredible talent for reading and figuring out new, unexplored waters. We have hosted Mike at Maria Lake, Burnie Lake, and Bain Lake and the results have been spectacular every time.

For 2023, Mike led a group of anglers back to Bain for a Fall marathon in mid September. The fishing was extraordinary. The group landed scads of nice fish, with big pike up to 41” and big lakers up to 42”. What blew away Mike was the big walleyes they got into (please remember the North Seal is the Northernmost boundary of the walleye range in Manitoba).

Quick Notes from Mike to us on his fall 2023 trip-

‘I love Bain. My latest trip to Bain in September 2023 was eye opening.

‘Endless aggressive lake trout in less than 10 feet of

water and shockingly large walleyes up to and over 30

inches long.

It’s a special place – a world class fishery.’

Are you aware of how good the trophy walleye fishing is?

It really hit home this last trip. We probably caught a dozen in the 28” range and at least 4 over 30”. And that’s not “really” targeting them seriously. It’s actually ridiculous, absolutely world class and very rare in my experience! Very few people travel that far north to target walleyes, but walleyes of that size are a very different story!!
