An Incredible Week at Ganglers

Steve and Linda Williams are one of our favorite couples and we have been fortunate to host them at Gangler’s North Seal River Lodge on four trips over the last 10 years.  They love accessing as many fly-out lakes as possible while here, each its own unique experience.  They just concluded their best trip ever and we asked Steve to share their experience.

“The overall stats are 8 trophies (the largest was 45 inches), two 40″ pike and a conservative estimate of over 75 pike between 35 and 39 Linda came close with several fish that were 39 inches…”

Hi Ken,

This was by far the best trip of the last four. Also, all of my fish were caught on the fly (the black pike minnow was the superstar of the week). Linda only used her spinning rod and reel.

The overall stats are 8 trophies (the largest was 45 inches), two 40″ pike and a conservative estimate of over 75 pike between 35 and 39 inches. Linda came close with several fish that were 39”. She fished very hard and the amount of fish we caught was close to equal.

The biggest day for us was 163 pike. The reason I know the exact number is we started out really hot and decided to count how many we caught. We had another day we stopped counting at 100,

Day 1 Did not count, warm up at the lake at the lodge

Day 2: Clisby, two trophies and many 35 to 39 inches

Day 2: Atim (one trophy and many 35 to 39 fish). All of these fish were caught in Frustration Bay. This is the second time I’ve had luck here. These fish seem more likely to bite a fly instead of a lure.

Day 3: Booth Lake, One trophy (the biggest trophy and insane number of fish. We stopped counting at 100).

Day 4: Sprott; The least productive day. We still caught over 75 fish.

Day 5: Mistahi: The most insane day of the trip. Over 163 fish. We could of caught more but our arms were wearing out.

Day 6: I forgot the name of the lake. It’s right next to long lake: My best day at Ganglers ever. We finally had good weather. By 11:00 we could see the bottom of the bay. This is truly the land of big fish. I caught 4 trophies, two 40″ inch and a very high amount of 35″ to 39″ Pike. This was mostly all site casting. Travis and I made a very good team. He would point out the fish and I would put the fly next to the pike. We only lost two fish that were hooked. By 2:00 PM we were only casting for trophies. The problem was the 35 to 39 inch fish were quicker to the fly (a good problem to have).

As a simple observation, There is no place where an angler can catch  such a high number of fish and have many opportunities to catch trophies.

Your place is certainly one of kind!
