Time of year and
Water Temps
The North Seal walleye fishery shocks every angler who experiences it. To see large walleye suspended mid-day amongst cabbage beds in crystal clear water is amazing. To see four surrounding a white jig in 4 feet of water is anticipation at its finest.
Ice-Out
Ice-out, water temps, and weather dictate walleye behavior in June. Fishing is generally very shallow for walleye. There are no significant weeds at this time. Walleye are in water ranging from 3’-15’, in current areas, rivers, and off sand points. You may even get a view of them right off our dock feeding on the minnows—30+” walleye have been spotted there. Depending on the time of ice-out, they will start to move slightly deeper late in the month. At this time of the year, the walleye can be in very shallow water in the river areas and can also be concentrated in large numbers in shallow bays 2-4’.
Late June
By late June walleye will move to deeper water—approx. 6′ – 17′. You can often find them in narrow funneling water such as between islands and river mouths later in the month when the small fish get pushed through these areas.
July Walleye Patterns
Walleye begin strong patterns in July, forming huge, tight schools in current providing walleye fishing at its finest with lots of 20-26” fish and larger. Most walleye by one boat in a day? 308!
August Walleye Patterns
In August, walleye are in the same patterns as July and larger size. Many of our 28”-32″ are caught at this time.
September Walleye Patterns
Water is cooling rapidly in September, and the scenery is gorgeous. Walleye will move when the lake turns over and will generally move onto mid-lake humps.
