“The Best Fishing Trip of my Life!”

Story by first-time guest Jerold Harter

First time Gangler’s guest Jerold Harter came up with friend Todd Rave, a guest who had fished with us many years before. Jerold mostly fly fished while Todd, a newcomer to the fly, rotated between spinning and fly fishing. They had an awesome trip in mid July.

The best fishing trip of my life is the summary. This is a you get what you pay for fishing trip. From start to finish this is a well run, well thought out fishing lodge. Air transportation from Winnipeg was very nice. Cabin for two people was comfortable, especially for being so far off the grid. Beds were comfortable, ceiling fans and window fans worked well, demand hot water heater worked well, and Starlink internet throughout the property was excellent. All meals were very good and on time. Service from all of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our guide was fantastic. He knew all the lakes, found fish, could see fish that we could not see, told us when the fish hit even when we did not know it. There is no way we could have caught half the fish we caught without our guide. We were fly fishing which can be difficult in the wind and weather but our guide found us fishable water regardless. The fly-out lakes are worth it. Every day, the fishing was superlative: the biggest walleye of our lives, the biggest pike of our lives, the subsequent biggest pike of our lives, the most pike of our lives, the best topwater pike of our lives. And when the weather was too rough for pike casting we resorted to spinning tackle and caught the largest lake trout of our lives. I put off coming here for years due to cost and went to other places. Now I regret the lost time/opportunity and have already booked for 2025!
