Paul Evans along with his dad, Dave Smith, and sister, Debbie, are now approaching their 20th anniversary with Gangler’s. Their stays at North Seal River Lodge have been full of exceptional fishing and special family experiences and much more, as so aptly shared by Paul in the attached story. Ganglers never intended North Seal River Lodge to be the biggest lodge ever. We certainly have the water for it but that would run contrary to our vision and what we felt was ideal. We designed it to be a very special lodge, the kind of lodge WE would cherish, with smaller guest numbers, a VERY warm and friendly atmosphere, and an emphasis on personalized service. As corny as it sounds, and as one beloved classic TV sitcom shared:

“Where everybody knows your name!”

Gangler’s is all about treasured guests like Paul, Dave and Debby. Guests who recognize something truly special and embrace it. We deeply appreciate and take great pride in the many well-traveled anglers who have decided Gangler’s is their ‘special place.’ If you haven’t experienced NSRL, we invite you to join us.

“Ken,

At this time of year, we give thanks for the time we are able to spend with family and friends and reminisce about our most memorable experiences together. As we get older, and face the myriad challenges life brings, we appreciate these shared moments even more. Inevitably, around our house, stories about our amazing adventures at Gangler’s are brought to life with a lot of fondness, laughter, and exceedingly exaggerated tales of monster fish! However, what is not exaggerated is what makes Gangler’s a special experience – it is a special place with special people. And, for me, it has provided the backdrop for developing a special bond with my dad.

Yes, we all want to catch the most and the biggest. And if that is the goal, well, I can tell you this – I have fished around the world, and frankly, there is no place on the planet that provides the sheer volume, variety, and size of fish found at Gangler’s. Then, consider the ability to fly out every day and access so many different bodies of water that each provide their own challenges, species, fun, and rewards. And if you are a flyfisherman like me, it is nirvana; you have the chance to cast to pike, lake trout, walleye, and grayling – sometimes all in the same day! So, perhaps come for the fishing…but you’ll come back for much more than that.

When we talk about Gangler’s, we talk about: delicious shore lunch adventures with our guides, encountering bears, moose, wolves, bald eagles, and other wildlife, the beauty of the eskers and the landscape of the North Seal watershed, seeing the northern lights for the first time, loud and boisterous card games after dinner, morning coffee and conversations staring across the lake, and cocktails and stories about the ones that got away. The whole really is greater than the sum of its parts.

So, as we approach our 20th year traveling to Northern Manitoba, we are thankful for Gangler’s. We see you as extended family. From the staff to the guides, the chefs, the pilots, and the maintenance crew, everyone cares about each other and looks out for one another. We have formed lasting friendships with many of you. This includes our fellow anglers, with whom we coordinate return trips specifically to ensure we are at Gangler’s during the same week. It truly is a special experience in a special place with special people.

Best,

Paul Evans”
