Gangler’s 2019 Season Wrap Up

3 trophy species

trophy PikeGangler’s 2019 fishing season has wrapped up yet another incredible year of great angling – and it was a magnificent year at that! Over 1200 Master Angler fish were caught and released with the largest pike being a 49″ monster and the largest laker, a 44″ beast. Over 100 trophy pike were landed in the 45″- 48″ range and we had over 30 trophy lake trout ranging between 40″- 44″. In fact, the fishing action was so great this year, we had many 100+ fish per days reported and several astounding 200+ fish per days noted – an experience that left our guests shaking their heads in astonishment. trophy Pike With 117 boats on 45 different lakes spread out over our 5.5M acre watershed, it would take many years for a guest to explore all of it !

The 2019 season began with uncommonly low water levels leaving the fish nowhere to hide! As the season progressed, the water kept rising to the point where we had to raise the North Seal River Lodge dock by fall.  Based on what we saw leaving in early October, water levels will be excellent for opening next season. Weather-wise, June was uncommon with cold temps suddenly easing into tropical highs in the 80s by the third week. The fishing was absolutely tremendous and our guests displayed trophy PikeBahamian suntans and great fish stories going home. The weather then cooled and remained on the cool side until mid July. The remainder of July and August were normal, comfortable temps and weather. September was excellent if not a bit on the mild side. The fishing in Manitoba’s Sub-Arctic was quite comfortable !

The weather wasn’t great but the guests seemed to really enjoy the experience, so much so we are repeating it for 2020.

Another new trophy fishing experience we offered in 2019 was our Maria Lake Fall Laker Fishing frenzy. 2019 “Frenzy” fishing guests experienced everything they dreamed of and more as the big lakers flooded into the shallows. Fishing was so incredible we had sold-out The Frenzy in 2020 but by popular demand, we’ve added more Frenzy availabilities to Maria and now at Bain Lake Outpost. Fall trophy fishing and spectacular Northern Lights make for an incredible trip. We’ll have more on the 2019 Frenzy in a later issue of ‘Current’.

Thank You!

I do want to take this opportunity to thank all of our guests who joined us in 2019. From the moment you arrive at Gangler’s, you are part of our ‘family’ and we value your loyalty immensely. And because of you, our repeat clientele ratio has risen again and it’s now up to 70%! I also want to thank our staff for their dedication, hard work, and devotion to our guests. The atmosphere they create is wonderful and our guests compliment us on their dedication time and time again. A great fishing lodge is about great fishing but lodge atmosphere and the combination of great guests and staff made for a truly special season.

A Great Lodge Must Have Great Staff

pilotOur 2019 season featured many new faces. At The North Seal River Lodge we gave a very warm welcome to Dave & Robbie who worked extremely hard this season. Previously camp managers of Maria Lake, their great organization and work ethic kept things running efficiently. Our shore staff led by chef Ben Hunter, assistant chef Cody Sellar and bartender Trinity Cyr ensured our guests had a wonderful 5-star experience.
At the outposts, Kevin Parchem took over the management reins at Stevens/Nicklin and wowed the guests with the camp improvements and his assistance. Tracy and Robert Filion stepped into our Maria LRalphake Mini-Lodge and no one left without gaining an extra 10 lbs. Morgan Janzen did a GREAT job at Clifton and his brother Curt returned to Burnie and gave us another excellent season. Last but not least, Ken Poitras, a Gangler’s fave, managed Bain with his usual superlative style and efficiency. Our deepest appreciation to all of them!
