BIG PIKE ON THE (RAT) ATTACK!!!
Early June guests Nick and Zac Hoiles enjoyed a spectacular return to Gangler's. Zac spent a lot of time fly-fishing and landed some beautiful trophies on the fly. Dad Nick's secret weapon had to be one of the most astonishing and disgusting looking lures we have ever seen: The Savage Gear 3D Rad Rat. As revolting as this peculiar lure is, Nick just ripped up the pike on it! Trophy after trophy, pike destroyed this monstrosity with total disregard. Nick gave us his Rad Rat to try but its novelty was such with our guests that it now resides in its earned place of honor above the NSRL Timberwolf Bar.
Nick also shared these notes and photos of his trip-
"I wanted to take a special father and son trip to celebrate my son's Zac's recent graduation from West Point. We had visited Gangler's a number of years before and had a great time and decided it would be a great destination for this trip. Everything about Gangler's lodge is first-class and the fishing is outstanding. We selected the opening week of the season with a focus on trophy pike and we weren't disappointed! We fished the main lake and did three flyouts. The first day on the main lake was cold but boating well over 100 pike certainly warmed us up! Our first flyout was to McDennon which was a great lake including several in and outflowing rivers. We caught close to 100 fish that day, including my son's first trophy pike at 42"! The next day on Egenolf Lake we had an outstanding day. It was sunny and warm and we went right to the river outlet on the far end of the lake. I caught a great lake trout... 39" and we both caught loads of pike. We moved to a bay close by and the fishing was crazy. The pike were too numerous to count and were large. We didn't land any trophies but the average size was 32-35". We spent the day on that end of the lake and had another 100 fish day. The next flyout was to Sprott Lake. We had a beautiful day but the fishing was slower than earlier in the trip. No trophies were landed but we had several nice fish a little under 40". The final day had us on a flyout to Clisby Lake and it was sunny and warm.
The fishing was absolutely amazing with 12 trophy pike boated! It was our single best fishing day ever. Gangler's Lodge provided my son and I a trip to remember. A big thanks to Ken and his entire staff.... WELL DONE!"
- Thanks, Nick
(Ganglers would like to congratulate Zac on his commissioning at West Point and thank him in advance for his service and dedication.)

2019 Openings Still AvailableThe low water of the beginning season has consistently brought most of our lakes to nearly normal water levels. Consistent rain and a few lingering low pressure systems have kept the water moving and forest fire threat next to nothing. All of this has resulted in an incredible season of fishing with many epic catches of both quality and quantity - and with that, a hoard of very happy Gangler's guests. Keep in touch with us via social media or just watch for our next The Current email. We have a lot to share in the coming months as this season is shaping up to be truly spectacular.
We're barely into the Sub-arctic summer but that also means it's time to lock-in your desired dates for the 2020 fishing season. Many weeks at Gangler's have sold out or are filling up fast but there's still time to book your dream trip at any one of our 6 camps. Please feel free to give us a call (866-51-LODGE) or an email or visit Ganglers.com to ensure your 2020 destination/dates will be locked in. It's been an incredible 2019 and in 2020 we intend to make sure your fishing dreams also come true.
